Snader, Luke L.

Luke L. Snader, age 82, of Reinholds, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2022.
He was the husband of Elizabeth G. (Martin) Snader and the son of the late John Richard and Irene (Knosp) Snader.
Luke was a member of Blainsport Mennonite Church. He was employed at McMinn's Asphalt Company retiring in 2012. He really enjoyed classic cars, reading, spending time in nature hunting and especially enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 3 children, David, husband of Linda of Denver, James, companion of Kim Zoll of Stevens and Dina Burd of Denver; 4 grandchildren, Krystal, Jillian, Alison, and Jon; 2 step-grandchildren, Michell and Steven Burd; 6 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Bertha Kreider and brother-in-law, Dave Greenly.
He was preceded in death by 5 brothers, Daniel, Robert, John, Raymond, and Aaron; 3 sisters, Anna, Ruth, and Mary; and a son-in-law, Wesley Burd.
A viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Blainsport Mennonite Church, 86 S. Blainsport Road, Reinholds. An additional viewing will be held Friday, May 27th from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m., at the church, with Pastor Eric Marshall officiating.
Interment will be held at the adjacent church cemetery.

Snyder, Minnie H. Nolt
March 7, 1941 - January 19, 2022
Minnie H. Snyder, 80, of Ephrata entered into eternal rest at home on January 19, 2022. She was born on March 7, 1941 to the late Joseph O. and Mary (Hoover) Nolt. She was the wife of John J. Snyder with whom she shared 59 years of marriage.
Minnie was a member of Muddy Creek Mennonite Church, Hope Fellowship, Denver, PA.
Minnie dearly loved her children and grandchildren. She greatly enjoyed baking cookies with them. Growing beautiful flowers and bird watching were favorites of hers along with sewing craft items and quilts. In earlier years, she operated a fabric store and Snyder’s Quilts and Crafts which is now Snyder’s Furniture.
She is survived by three daughters: Barbara (Mervin) Horst of Ephrata, Eileen (Mervin) Horning of Ephrata, Glenda (Ernest) Groff of Honesdale and one son: David (Vonda Weaver) of Plain City, Ohio: 22 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren: 7 sisters: Frances Martin, Anna (Jonas) Zeiset, Edna (Aaron) Zimmerman, Ella (Melvin) Martin, Ada Mae (Lawrence) Martin, Martha (Amos) Martin and Arlene (Aaron) Sensenig: two brothers: Ervin (Beverly) and Warren (Florence): two sisters-in-law, Rebecca (Newswanger) Nolt and Anna (Garman) Nolt and one brother-in-law, Paul (Ruth) Shirk.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Craig: two sisters: Esther (Paul) Shirk and Mary (Titus) Reiff: two brothers: Ivan (Rebecca) and Paul (Anna) and two brothers-in-law: Edwin (Frances) Martin and Titus Reiff.
The family would like to thank Minnie’s caregivers and Hospice and Community Care nurses for their kind, compassionate care.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 24, at 10:00 A.M. at the Muddy Creek Mennonite Church, 988 Beam Road, Denver, PA with Bishop Jolan Martin officiating. Interment in the adjoining church cemetery. Viewings will be held at the church on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 6:00 to 8:00 PM and on Monday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.

Snyder, Paul S.
November 5, 1933 - February 17, 2022
Paul S. Snyder, 88, of New Holland, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 17, 2022. He was a lifelong farmer. He was the husband of the late Miriam (Martin) Snyder who passed on February 17, 2003.
He was a member of Groffdale Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference.
Surviving are four sons: Glenn husband of Janice (Weaver) Snyder of Denver, Paul M. husband of Jean (Hursh) Snyder of Shippensburg, Mervin husband of Loreen (Hursh) Snyder of Newville, Gerald husband of Rhonda (Good) Snyder of New Holland, two daughters: Ruth Ann wife of Michael Burkholder of New Holland, Norma wife of Jay Paul Weaver of East Earl, 34 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, two sisters: Esther wife of Rufus Zimmerman of Mertztown, Mabel wife of Elam Horning of Leola, and a daughter-in-law Susan Snyder of Narvon.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, James Snyder, a grandson Curvin Snyder and seven siblings: Anna Zimmerman, Edna Shirk, Norman S. Snyder, Arron Snyder, Lena Martin, Katie Weaver and Mary Newswanger.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. at Groffdale Mennonite Church with Bishop Curvin Zimmerman, Richard Burkholder, Edwin Reiff, and Jay Paul Weaver officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. A viewing will be held at the Martindale Mennonite Reception Center on Monday from 2 4 p.m. and 6 8 p.m.

Sommers, Darrel D.
May 7, 1946 - September 24, 2022
Darrel D. Sommers,76, of Goshen, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 24, 2022, at Greencroft Goshen after a long struggle with Parkinson’s disease.
Darrel was born May 7, 1946, in Peru, Indiana, the second child of the late Wayne and Susie Sommers. Growing up the son of a farmer, he learned early to ride horses, milk cows, and love the land, eagerly taking on farming responsibilities as a teenager. He graduated from Bethany Christian High School in 1964 and continued farming with his father, later completing his bachelor’s degree from Goshen College in 1973. On July 7, 1973, he married Karen Laidig at Community Gospel Church. Together they raised a family, Holsteins, hogs, and grain, until he retired from farming and moved to Goshen in 2000. He was then employed with Greencroft maintenance until retiring in 2013.
Darrel was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and was actively involved at Pleasant View Mennonite Church and then since 1987 at Waterford Mennonite Church. He enjoyed reading and journaling, volunteered with World Missionary Press and the MCC Resource Center, and always looked forward to returning home from traveling with his wife and friends.
Darrel is survived by his wife of 49 years, Karen, his daughters Kris (Jon) Shenk, Goshen, and Amy (Brian) Biedenbach, Fort Wayne; son Todd (Gretchen) Sommers, Indianapolis; seven grandchildren; two brothers Wayne Arlee (Julia) Sommers, Albuquerque, NM and Dallas (Susan) Sommers, New Stanton, PA; and two sisters Lorraine (Glenn) Reinford, Goshen, and Fern (Dale) Delagrange, Spencerville, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call Friday, September 30, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at Waterford Mennonite Church, Goshen. There will also be one hour of calling prior to the 11:00 am funeral service on Saturday, October 1, also at Waterford Mennonite Church. Stauffer, Grace E. Lindberg
January 11, 1947 - August 20, 2022
Grace E. Stauffer, 75, of Ephrata, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at home.
She was born in Ephrata to the late Joel N. and Lydia (Auker) Lindberg and was the wife of Clement S. Stauffer with whom she shared 54 years of marriage.
She was an active member of Blainsport Mennonite Church where she was involved in Sunday school and Bible school.
Grace was a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked for various doctor's offices and in the hospital setting. She enjoyed crocheting, working in her flower gardens, and was well known for her pie baking.
In addition to her husband, Grace is survived by four children, Michael S., husband of Janelle Stauffer, Travis J., husband of Wendy Stauffer, Michelle R., wife of Jeremy Kready, Ryan C., husband of Megan Stauffer; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, E. Ray, husband of Angie Lindberg; a sister, Thelma J., wife of Mark Stauffer and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Mohler.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Joel E. Lindberg and sister-in-law, Katheryn.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, from 6 to 8 PM at the Blainsport Mennonite Church, 85 S. Blainsport Road, Reinholds. An additional viewing will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2022, from 10 to 11 AM at Blainsport Mennonite Church, followed by funeral services at 11:00 AM with Pastor Eric Marshall officiating. Interment will take place in the Blainsport Mennonite Cemetery.

Steider, Richard L.
December 23, 1937 - September 5, 2022
Richard L. Steider, 84, of Shipshewana, died at 4:00 am on Monday, September 5 at his residence. He was born on December 23, 1937, in Shickley, NE, to Harold and Helen Steider. On March 29, 1959, on a Saturday night in Shipshewana, he married Roberta J. Troyer, she survives.
Survivors in addition to his wife are two sons, Doug (Cindy) Steider, Ron Steider both of LaGrange; four grandchildren, Lee (Melanie) Steider, Joseph (Linda) Steider, Kristin (Evan) Stieg, Megan (Kevin) Miller; 10 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Mary (George) Fast of Ontario, Canada, Joan Wenger of IL, Margaret Steider of IL, Dorothy Dunmire of PA, Barbara Claude of IL; three sisters-in-law, Royann Steider of LaGrange, Nellie Steider of PA, Linda Steider of OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Keith Steider; three brothers, Paul, Bob, and Dave Steider.
Dick was a farmer and truck driver and a member of Shore Church. He served in 1-W service at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Visitation will be from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 5:00 - 7:00 pm Friday, September 9 at Shore Church, 7235 W. 100 N., Shipshewana. Family and friends will gather at 10:00 am for a graveside service on Saturday, September 10 at Shore Cemetery, Shipshewana prior to an 11:00 am memorial service at Shore Church, Shipshewana. Services will be conducted by Pastor Nic Raber. Memorials may be given to Rainbow Years Learning Ministry.
Strite, Ida Mae Gochenauer
February 4, 1937 - March 24, 2022
Ida Mae (Gochenauer) Strite of Tylertown, MS, departed this life on Thursday, March 24, 2022 at the age of 85 years, 1 month, and 20 days. Ida Mae was born in Chambersburg, PA to the late Ralph and Anna (Sollenberger) Gochenauer on February 4, 1937. She was married to Lawrence Strite on June 16, 1956, and they shared 54 years together. She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence, daughter Eva, and brother Ralph Gochenauer.
She is survived by her children: Paul & Martha Strite of Foxworth, MS; Carol & Merlin Bechtel of Sumrall, MS; Steve & Dorothy Strite of Fairland, OK; Joe & Sharon Strite of Fairland, OK; Laureen and Jon Zehr of Gladys, VA; Arnold Strite of Tylertown, MS; John & Becky Strite of Smithdale, MS; David and Darlene Strite of Tylertown, MS; Linn and Wanda [Hege] Strite of Tylertown, MS; and Rachel Strite of Tylertown, MS; 52 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.
Ida Mae was a faithful member of the Darbun Mennonite Church. She was known for her hospitality and good cooking, and made many a meal for friends and strangers alike. She milked goats for many years and made many friends through selling goat milk. She also enjoyed quilting and made quilts for children, grandchildren, and for many others in the community. She was a wonderful storyteller, and enjoyed entertaining her family with stories of things that had happened to her and things that she had read.
She was greatly loved and will be deeply missed.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Darbun Mennonite Church in 1379 Kokomo Road, Kokomo, MS. Visitation will also be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at 8:00 AM until funeral service at 10:00 AM at Darbun Mennonite Church. Burial will follow in Darbun Mennonite Church Cemetery. Stutzman, Amos J.
December 29, 1928 - March 14, 2022
Amos J. Stutzman, 93, of Goshen, passed away Monday, March 14, 2022, at home.
He was born December 29, 1928 in Haven Kansas to Jacob H. and Tillie (Mullet) Stutzman.
On December 12, 1951 he married Lovina Thomas in Thomas, Oklahoma.
She survives along with four daughters, Thelma (Mark) Smothers of Centerville, Iowa, Betty Schrock of Paden, Oklahoma, Kaylene (Chad) Yutzy of Goshen and Louella (Tony) Plett of Sarasota, Florida; nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Naleta Joy; a son-in-law, Andy Schrock; seven brothers, Herman, Noah, Enos, Jake, Jonas, Andy and David and three sisters, Lizzie, Fannie and Sovilla.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 16, 2022, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Bethel Mennonite Church, 25402 C.R. 50, Nappanee. A 10 a.m. Friday, March 18, funeral service will be held at the church.
Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery.

Stutzman, Elva Leon
August 18, 1962 - January 16, 2022
Elva Leon Stutzman 59 of Arcola, Illinois passed away at 9:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 16, 2022, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, Illinois.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 P.M. on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at the HCK West Building, 1 mile south of Arthur, Illinois. Bishop Raymond S. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Miller Cemetery in rural Arcola, Illinois. Visitation will be held anytime after 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, and any time after 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at the HCK West Building. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Elva was born on August 18, 1962 in Decatur, Illinois. He was a son of John J. and Anna J. (Schrock) Stutzman.
He is survived by his parents, John and Anna Stutzman of Arcola, IL, four siblings, Sovilla Miller and her husband Homer of Arthur, IL, Edward Stutzman and his wife Alma of Arthur, IL and Paul Eugene Stutzman and his wife Lillian of Arcola, IL, 7 nephews and 14 nieces.
He was preceded in death by two stillborn sisters, Rosella and Lela, his grandparents, Jonas J and Lizzie S. (Beachy) Stutzman and Joel N, and Sovilla J. (Miller) Schrock, a nephew, Darrin Stutzman, three uncles and three aunts.
Elva worked at New Horizon Work Shop in rural Arthur. He was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
Stutzman, James A.
October 5, 1995 - March 4, 2022
James A. Stutzman 26, of Millersburg, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, March 4, 2022 after a battle with cystic fibrosis. He was born on October 5, 1995 to Arlie and Ada W. (Beachy) Stutzman.
James was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his siblings, Paul (Ella) Stutzman of Fredericksburg, William (Leah) Stutzman of the home, Aaron, Rachel, Isaac (s.f. Mattie), Dena and Lydia all of the home; and his grandmother, Lydiann (late William) Beachy.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Levi and Ida Stutzman and William Beachy.
Funeral services will be held at the Daniel L. Stutzman residence, 6139 TR 605, Millersburg, on Sunday, March 6, at 9:00 a.m. with Minister Wayne M. Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Locust Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Arlie Stutzman residence, 6231 TR 605, Millersburg, after 5 p.m. on Friday and any time on Saturday. John J. Stutzman 88 of Arcola, Illinois passed away at 2:45 A.M. on Friday, October 28, 2022, at his residence.
Funeral services were held at 9:00 A.M. on Monday, October 31, 2022, at the HCK West Building, 1 mile south of Arthur, Illinois. Bishop Raymond S. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Miller Cemetery in rural Arcola, Illinois.
Visitation will be held any time after 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 29, 2022, and any time after 10:00 A.M. on Sunday, October 30, 2022, at the HCK West Building. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
John was born on October 28, 1934, in Arcola, Illinois. He was a son of Jonas J. and Lizzie S. (Beachy) Stutzman. He married Anna J. Schrock on April 10, 1958, in Arthur, Illinois, and they lived in Holy Matrimony for 64 years.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Stutzman of Arcola, IL, three children, Sovilla Arlene Miller and her husband Homer of Arthur, IL, Edward Stutzman and his wife Alma Fern (Herschberger) of Arthur, IL and Paul Eugene Stutzman and his wife Lillian Sue (Miller) of Arcola, IL: 21 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Ada Stutzman of Plain City, OH
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Elva Leon Stutzman, two stillborn daughters, Rosella, and Lela, 1 grandson, Darrin Stutzman, 2 great granddaughters, Emily, and Serena, 2 brothers, Dan and Henry Stutzman and 4 sisters, Martha, Barbara, Ella, and Ida Stutzman.
John was a carpenter for many years, and he was a member of the Old Order Amish Faith.
Suter, Jay Merlyn
September 12, 1934 - March 25, 2022
Jay Merlyn Suter, 87, of Harrisonburg, died on Friday, March 25, 2022.
Mr. Suter was born Sept. 12, 1934, in Rockingham County, Va., the son of Jacob and Mary Frances Shank Suter.
He married Geneva Emswiler on Sept. 12, 1959, and is survived by his wife and one daughter, Carmen Suter Williams and husband, Jeff, of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; three stepgrandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Doris Bumbaugh; sister-in-law, Margaret Wenger and husband, Bill; and many nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Raymond O. Suter and Eldon L. Suter, predeceased him.
He attended Eastern Mennonite High School and then furthered his education in electronics and obtained an FCC Radiotelephone Operator License. This led to employment in several radio stations as a transmitter operator and at a recording studio that produced the Mennonite Hour broadcast. He was employed by the Harrisonburg Telephone Co. (now Verizon) for 27 years. He was introduced to Amateur Radio early in life and obtained an FCC license, W4QDC in 1950. He enjoyed this hobby for 70 years, as it allowed him to make new friends far and wide. Another aspect of the hobby was building your own equipment to contact other “hams.” His amateur license was instrumental in obtaining his first job in a radio station in Wilson, N.C.
After retirement, he volunteered at the Harrisonburg Mennonite Church for nine years where he installed a telephone system, did computer maintenance, and worked to improve the sound system. When the church was first built in 1972, he designed and installed the sound system to the best of his ability with the condition that the speakers would need to be invisible. Other volunteer activity included Meals on Wheels, The Gift and Thrift, and Mennonite Disaster Service in North Carolina.
He was a lifelong member of Harrisonburg Mennonite Church.

Swartzentruber, Mervin Joseph
March 29, 1928 - December 7, 2022
Mervin Joseph Swartzentruber, 94, of Goshen, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, December 7, [2022] at Greencroft Healthcare.
He was born March 29, 1928, in LaGrange County, to John and Ruth (Esch) Swartzentruber. On December 31, 1954 he married Marilyn Stutzman of Goshen. She predeceased him in 2015.
He is survived by his brother Paul (Jan) of Delaware, Ohio; children Julia Swartzentruber and Jo Rogers, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Jean (Rick) Murray, Spring Hill, Tennessee; and John (Lauren McKinney) Swartzentruber, Swarthmore, Pennsylvania; grandchildren Samantha (Jiles Wanna), Ben, and McKenna Reilly, and Mika and Will Swartzentruber, and one great-grandchild (Jiles Jr). He was predeceased by his parents and two siblings, Harold and Edna (Dean Hochstetler).
Mervin graduated with a BA from Goshen College in 1950 and a THB from Goshen Biblical Seminary in 1951. During and after college, he worked as an electrician, then developed his renowned cooking skills while leading a 1-W service unit in Plymouth, Michigan. He met the love of his life, Marilyn, when they volunteered together on the executive committee of the Indiana Michigan MYF in their twenties.
Mervin worked for 38 years at the Mennonite Publishing House in Scottdale, Pennsylvania, first in the Editorial Department, then as Maintenance Manager. He and Marilyn raised their children in a country house they built themselves. They were active members of Kingview Mennonite Church until 1995, when they retired to Greencroft and joined Benton Mennonite.
Mervin was a “Renaissance man,” seemingly able to fix and do anything. His mind was constantly working to solve some mechanical, technical, or design challenge. “The best thing my parents did for me was to let me play, let me try things, and let me fail,” Mervin once said. Whether he was building a dining room hutch as a wedding present, an elaborate marble roller for Greencroft residents, parquetry tables for the MCC Relief Sale, or a butternut squash casserole for a church potluck, Mervin’s skill, patience, brilliant mind, creativity, and most of all his generosity, were evident to all who knew him.
Mervin will be greatly missed by his family and community. He will be interred with Marilyn at Gracelawn Cemetery in Middlebury. Family visitation followed by a memorial celebration will be on December 20 at 5:30PM at Greencroft’s Evergreen Place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Greencroft Foundation (Woodshop Fund) or Benton Mennonite Church.
Swope, Gloria Turner
March 5, 1932 - October 16, 2022
Gloria Turner Swope, 90, of Timberville, passed on to her heavenly home on Oct. 16, 2022, at Sentara RMH Medical Center in Harrisonburg. She was born in Rockingham County and was a daughter of the late George “Hilly” F. and Virginia Wine Turner.
Gloria was a homemaker. She was a member of Trissels Mennonite Church near Broadway, where she was active in the Sewing Circle. She enjoyed traveling and loved her family and grandchildren.
Gloria celebrated 64 years of marriage to her husband, Nelson P. Swope, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Cheryl Boskoski (David), of Montvale, Va., Carolyn Peters (Len), of Broadway and Debra Click (Norlyn), of Timberville; four grandchildren, Nicolas and Elleanna Peters, Lauren and Sam Click; a sister, June E. Branner of Greensboro, N.C.; and two brothers, Gary F. Turner (Ruby), of Broadway and Robert L. Turner (Fay), of Timberville.
The Revs. Harold Miller and Paul Conrad will conduct a funeral service Sunday at 3 p.m. at Trissels Mennonite Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service in the fellowship hall. Masks are preferred while indoors during the service.
Friends may view and sign a guestbook Friday from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Grandle Funeral Home in Broadway.
